Pedestrian struck on highway, dies at the scene in Kissimmee

When you're in Orlando or Kissimmee, one thing is for sure: You will see pedestrians. People love to come to this area for tourism, and there are plenty of residents, too.

Sadly, in some cases, pedestrians find themselves in areas where it's difficult to cross the road. In worst-case scenarios, they are hit and killed. That's what happened in this case of an unidentified man who was involved in a collision near the Old Town Boulevard Intersection of U.S. Highway 192.

The Florida Highway Patrol indicated that the 23-year-old pedestrian was attempting to cross when a 23-year-old man driving a Nissan Sentra collided with him on U.S. 192. He claims that he did not see the pedestrian in the roadway. After being hit, the pedestrian passed away at the scene.

In this case, the pedestrian may have been in an area that was not marked, but regardless, it's a tragic loss of life that did not need to happen. Even in cases where a pedestrian is in the wrong area, there could be other factors that led to the impact, such as a driver not paying attention or speeding over the limit.

In most cases, pedestrian accidents are completely avoidable if everyone is paying attention. If you are hit by a driver or know someone who has passed away after being hit, you could have a case. Pedestrians and drivers alike need to obey the rules of the road, and if they are hurt or killed, the at-fault party can pursue a claim for compensation that covers medical care and other financial losses.
