Fatal car crashes are devastating when they involve a single person, but could you imagine if multiple members of your family had been involved? That’s what happened in this tragic incident in Florida. According to a news report from late February, four members of a family from Massachusetts were struck and killed in a four-car crash in Kissimmee.
The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the collision took the lives of a 76-year-old woman, 41 year old woman and 5-year-old child as well as an 11-year-old child who initially was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The collision took place at around 5:30 p.m., when a pickup truck slammed into the rear of the family’s van. That resulted in the van overturning.
Two other vehicles were hit after the initial collision, but fortunately, no one was hurt. The driver of the family’s van and and three other passengers, two under the age of 10, survived the collision. The 26-year-old driver of the pickup truck now faces charges for the fatal collision.
It’s not clear why the driver collided with the family’s van, but this incident points out how important it is to give yourself enough space when you’re traveling behind other vehicles. You always need to prepare to stop, especially if there is a sudden stop ahead of you. Tailgating and other reckless behaviors can lead to collisions like this one, which can take the lives of people who are just trying to enjoy their day.
If you lose a loved one or are hurt in a crash like this one, remember that you do have legal options.
