Interventions available to reduce the symptoms of schizophrenia

Living with a mental condition can be difficult. This illness likely impacts a person’s life in many ways. However, to the average person, it does not look like they are living with a disabling condition. For some mental illness sufferers in Florida, this means suffering silently. Nonetheless, this does not mean they are not living with a disabling illness. And for those seeking Social Security disability benefits, it is important to understand how exactly the mental condition is impacting his or her life because these details could help an individual recover necessary benefits so they can meet their basic living needs.

Schizophrenia may be misunderstood by some; however, it is considered a mental condition. It is a disabling disease that has the ability to impact all major life areas of a person. This mental condition is so challenging to live with that over the past several years there has been a growing need to uncover new and better methods to reduce the symptoms of the disease.

Thus, a study that is focused on the systematic review of traditional and third-wave cognitive behavioral interventions was used for those living with schizophrenia. This study also focused on the interventions that are aimed at recovery and how that impacts the level of disability a sufferer experiences. This study involved a quantitative study of 50 studies. It was discovered that traditional interventions were used to address disability domains, which both traditional and third-wave approaches focused on the mental functions that reflected the mental condition.

It was concluded that currently there exiss very few interventions that focus beyond symptom reduction and focus on the recovery of the disease. While these intervention methods can help improve the mood, negative symptoms and normal functioning of a person living with schizophrenia, the overall and long-term effectiveness of these interventions are inconclusive. Thus, even if the severity of the illness is reduced, a person living with schizophrenia could still be considered disabled in the sense that they can no longer work or provide for themselves financially.

Those living with mental conditions should understand that there are government resources and programs available. Social Security disability benefits can provide real options and assistance for loved ones living with a disabling mental condition. Thus, it is important to understand your rights and the application process to receive these benefits.
