3 arrested, 2 hospitalized after police chase ends in collision

When someone commits a crime and decides to flee from the police, they put themselves and all others around them in harm's way. That's unfortunately what happened in this case that went from Tampa to Central Florida as the police chased suspects in a car burglary case.

According to the report from Oct. 7, the Tampa Police Department had been notified of six different car burglaries within a mile of each other. Shortly thereafter, more calls came in to report burglaries again.

After realizing that the vehicle was likely a white Honda SUV, the authorities began to look for it. They found it at around 1:00 p.m., and a pursuit began. The TPD called the Florida Highway Patrol in for assistance during the chase, which headed onto Interstate 4 East. The suspects then fled onto exit 55 and onto east US-192, where they collided with another vehicle.

Inside that vehicle was a 67-year-old man who had to be taken to the hospital with serious injuries. As of Oct. 8, the man was still in critical condition.

The driver of the other vehicle, as well as two passengers, were arrested. The 16-year-old driver was taken to the hospital for treatment. The 18-year-old passenger and 20-year-old passenger were both arrested, but it was not indicated that they were injured.

This is an example of how a police chase can go wrong and involve an innocent driver. Fortunately, those responsible for the collision were caught, and the person who was struck and injured has been able to get the appropriate medical care to begin their recovery.
