How to work safely in wet weather

On Behalf of | Sep 12, 2018 | Workers' Compensation

As an outdoor worker in the state of Florida, you know that warm weather is the norm. You also know that rain can move into the area without notice, thus changing the way you approach your job.

There are many steps you can take to work safely in wet weather, with these five among the most important:

  • Wear the right gear: From nonslip shoes to gloves, be sure that you always wear gear to protect against an accident.
  • Move slowly: You may not want to do it, but slowing down when working in wet weather is a must.
  • Use the right equipment: There may be certain types of equipment that you can’t use in wet weather. There’s never a good time to take a risk.
  • Make it easy to see: For example, you may need to wear goggles when working in the rain. If you don’t, seeing what you’re doing can be difficult.
  • Make yourself seen: You want others to be able to see you at all times, even when the rain is coming down in buckets. Wearing bright-colored clothing, for instance, is one of the best ways to make this happen.

These are some of the many things you can do to work safely in wet weather. Unfortunately, even if you follow these tips, you could be part of a serious workplace accident.

If you’re injured on the job, report the incident to your employer and receive immediate medical treatment. Also, don’t rush back to work if you’re injured. Instead, learn more about collecting workers’ compensation benefits.
