The debilitating symptoms of panic attacks

Florida residents who suffer from depression or other mental health conditions may also be prone to panic attacks.

More than just a feeling of fear or a wave of anxiety, panic attacks can at times be confused with a serious medical condition, such as a stroke. If they are chronic, they can keep a Kissimmee resident from being able to go to work or even perform basic life functions.

The physical symptoms of a panic attack include feeling short of breath or feeling as if one is getting strangled. A person may begin to shake or sweat profusely and may also experience the feeling as if one is going to pass out. Emotionally, a person may feel is if he or she is going to lose their mind or not be able to stay in control of their lives in even the most minimal way.

Panic attacks can happen without any particular cause, and doctors aren’t exactly sure what brings them on. When they happen to a person more than once, a person may get diagnosed with what is called “panic disorder,” presuming, of course, that doctors cannot locate anything wrong with one’s body that could be causing the attacks.

Although these attacks usually last only a few minutes, they are bad enough for people to completely change their routines and activities in order to avoid having another one. If they happen frequently enough, a person might just not be able to continue working in their chosen profession or trade.

In such cases, a Florida resident suffering with panic attacks may want to consider taking the difficult but important step of applying for Social Security Disability benefits. Especially if their condition makes it difficult to do so alone, however, these people might want to consider having an experienced disability attorney help them gather the evidence they need to make sure they put together the best application possible.
