One of the most common work-related injuries

Every day, most residents in Florida spend their day at work. While this is a means to make a living, work is often more than that. A career can be a person’s goal in life and a place he or she enjoys spending their time. Although the workplace provides a source of income for individuals, some employees do not consider how a work environment could impact them. In other words, the elements in the workplace could present some serious risks to employees, causing them harm or injury.

Based on statistics by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hearing loss was found to be the third most common chronic physical condition in the U.S. This makes it more prevalent than diabetes and cancer. As a work-related injury, occupational hearing loss is most commonly caused by high noise exposure and is considered to be the most common U.S. work-related illness.

Roughly 22 million workers in the United States are exposed to hazardous occupational noise each year. The mining industry had the highest prevalence of workers with any type of hearing impairment, with most of them being moderate or worse impairment. The construction and manufacturing industries follow the mining sector.

When a worker suffers moderate or severe hearing impairment, his or her life is likely altered tremendously. Additionally, this injury could cause other problems, making it difficult to maintain employment. In these matters, it might be possible to apply for Social Security disability benefits for injuries. Disability benefits could help individuals who have suffered hearing loss or other disability due to an injury. These benefits could help the applicant cover some of their lost income, and pay for medical treatment.
