"Recurrence" of immune system disorders

If you suffer from some sort of immune system disorder, then you likely face challenges in your day-to-day life. You might suffer excruciating pain brought on by certain illnesses and diseases, and you may find yourself worrying about your physical health in the future. Additionally, you may have significant financial concerns, especially if your medical condition has left you disabled and unable to work. If this is the case, then you very well might qualify for Social Security disability benefits, but you'll have to demonstrate that you meet federal requirements first.

One of the biggest requirements for immune system disorders is recurrence. For many qualifying conditions, an afflicted individual must show that he or she has sought medical treatment and, despite that treatment, the individual suffers recurrent symptoms of the disease or illness. But what does "recurrent" mean? The Social Security Administration lays out a definition that must be understood before pursuing a SSD claim.

According to the SSA, a recurrent condition is one that initially responded to treatment but then came back after a given period of time. However, the applicable time period to satisfy the recurrent factor is dependent upon the medical condition in question in addition to the area of the body affected and the diseases typical behavior. Therefore, those seeking to prove recurrence need to not only understand their medical condition, but also how the SSA historically handles that condition.

This is where an experienced legal professional may prove beneficial. A legal team that has handled similar cases in the past will know what the SSA is looking for with regard to certain medical conditions and how to put forth evidence aimed at meeting that requirement. Legal professionals know how to find the answers to questions disabled individuals may have and how to help them prepare a compelling and legally strong SSD claim.
